DAI FILM PROGRAMS
We love faith, film, and story-telling and everything we do revolves around this theme. We teach film, we tell stories, and we host an annual film festival.
In 2016, we started the DAI Film Club, teaching free weekly classes in filmmaking, story development, screenwriting, and acting. As we shared our expertise with as many as 50 students each week. Each class was a standalone workshop with some students coming and going, thus missing out on some great lessons. So we decided it’s time to offer a more structured courseware titled Film School 101. We also host Saturday Workshops focused on various aspects of filmmaking and story-telling. And to top it off, we host the DeSoto Film Festival each year. So whether you’re in high school, college, or a working adult, there is a lot to learn and multiple areas to get plugged into.
Film School 101
Get started on your way to becoming a confident, knowledgable, and valued filmmaker.
Film School 101
Each student works in each role in a film’s life cycle – story, writing, directing, location scouting, production management, editing, graphics, color grading, poster design, advertising, and so on. Working in these various roles, each student discovers strengths in certain roles and weaknesses in others, with a goal to understand what is involved in each position and give them a well-rounded, hands-on experience in all facets of filmmaking.
We have now developed a robust curriculum that quickly moves students from humble beginner to confident, yet humble, filmmaker in a one-year film certificate program, which is currently accepting applications for the 2023 year. The Film School 101 program is free to the student with funding provided by sponsors. Think of it as a scholarship. We’re doing this to make sure no student wanting to learn filmmaking and video production misses out on pursuing a dream of becoming a filmmaker. Learn more and apply here.
Saturday Workshops
As electives in the Film School certificate program, we offer Saturday workshops which are also open to the public. So be sure to watch the DAI Calendar and register early.
